Ready to take your clinical skills somewhere extraordinary? Speech-Language Pathologists, SLP Clinical Fellows, and Occupational Therapists have an exciting opportunity to live, work, and make a meaningful difference in beautiful Turks and Caicos!
Volunteers work with the Ministry of Education’s Special Needs Unit and a pediatric clinic, supporting children with disabilities, speech and language disorders, and other diagnoses while helping expand access to much-needed speech, language, and occupational therapy services. Therapists may provide direct assessment and intervention, collaborate with teachers and families, develop practical classroom strategies, and provide training that builds the capacity of local professionals.
Beyond the clinical experience, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in island life, build lasting relationships, and become part of the local community. This is more than a volunteer placement—it’s an opportunity to use your expertise where it is truly needed, grow as a clinician, experience a new culture, and create an impact that lasts long after you return home.
This full-time clinical position is based on either Grand Turk or Providenciales, where you’ll provide speech-language pathology or occupational therapy services to children in primary schools in partnership with the Turks and Caicos Islands Ministry of Education’s Special Needs Unit. Depending on community needs, you may also have the opportunity to travel by plane to other islands throughout the month to reach children who otherwise have limited access to therapy services. Reporting to the Director of the Special Needs Unit, you’ll enjoy a high degree of independence and flexibility in creating your weekly schedule. You’ll have a home-base clinic space while also traveling to schools throughout the island to provide services where they are needed most. We also work with a pediatric private practice that provides therapy resources through their non-profit branch.
The need for therapy services in Turks and Caicos is significant. Currently, there is only one speech-language pathologist serving the entire country and no occupational therapists. With schools and children spread across multiple islands, it is simply not possible for the existing resources to meet the demand. Your placement helps fill this critical gap by bringing consistent, hands-on SLP and OT services directly to children and schools. You’ll have the opportunity to build relationships with students, teachers, families, and local professionals while contributing to the continued development of special education and therapy services within the country. Although your work may take place across different schools and clinical spaces, you’ll have access to Therapy Abroad’s collection of treatment materials, assessments, and clinical resources to support your work.
The Ministry of Education will assist with obtaining your visa and temporary professional license, and Therapy Abroad will guide you through the required paperwork and preparation before your placement. Clinical Fellows are also welcome to apply. For SLPs completing their Clinical Fellowship, Therapy Abroad can help coordinate appropriate supervision so that your experience meets ASHA requirements toward earning your Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP). This is an incredible opportunity to grow professionally, experience life in Turks and Caicos, and use your clinical skills to make a direct and lasting difference in communities where your expertise is truly needed.
We do request a 9 month (school year) commitment if possible.
When applying, click the green button "See Availability" then select the month you are interested in starting. Currently we have start times in January and August. There may be flexibility for the exact date and even month. If you have questions, please contact us.
Once you apply and pay the application fee, you'll be able to upload your resume/CV and letter of interest.
